Essential Oils: What, How & Why on the Royal Botanic Gardens Edinburgh Diploma in Herbology.   -  February 26th, 2019

I’m very very excited to be doing the Essential Oil Day for the RBGE’s wonderful Herbology course.  It’s an honour to be working with the RBGE, and a pleasure to be working with the course’s loving curator, Catherine Conway-Payne.  We’ll be taking about what essential oils are, why plants make them, why one might want to use them, and making some fun things wth them. It’s goign to be a great day!

Home Herbalism Course: Spring Remedies  -  Evenings in March, 2019

Join Joseph Nolan for this four-week course on making your own medicines at home.  We will be stocking up your herbal medicine chest, looking at essential preparations and how to make and use them.   It is a spring cpurse, so we will be looking at the seasonal herbs, and how best to use them, as well as botanical features and reliable ID.

Join Joseph Nolan for this four-week course on making your own medicines at home.  We will be stocking up your herbal medicine chest for winter, making two preparations a day, discussing helpful herbs you probably already have at home, and venturing out to ID and collect seasonal native medicines, so you are never without herbal help again. 

Mabon Harvest Herb Walk - September 17th, 2018

In Scotland, autumn is moving on and the glorious harvest continues.  There are berries and fruits, nuts and seeds, some hearty herbs and big sweet roots packed with a whole summer’s delights awaiting the canny forager.  Join Joseph Nolan for a wee wander down the bike path in Balgreen, IDing and learning about the culinary and medicinal uses of the “weeds” we pass every day.  Assemble by the Balgreen tram stop at 6:00 for an hour long walk.

Medicinal Herb Walk with the International Federation of Professional Aromatherapists  -  June 10th, 2018

As part of the IFPA’s 2018 conference, held at the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh, Joseph Nolan will lead a 90 minute herb walk through the beautiful grounds of the Edinburgh Botanical Gardens, discussing native plants and aromatics, uses and harvesting, giving a deeper understanding of the medicinal plants from which essential oils are extracted.
